Improving Students’ Productive Disposition through Realistic Mathematics Education with Outdoor Approach

Abstract: This study aimed to improve the students’ productive disposition (PD) through Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning with an outdoor approach based on school level. Productive disposition development is intended so that students can appreciate mathematics as a science needed for their lives. The method used in this research was a quasi-experimental study. The population was 210 students of the fifth grade of Elementary School from five schools. The sample was 75 fifth grade students. The data were coll… Show more

“…Educators can influence and affect students’ dispositions through their classrooms and interactions with students. To improve students’ mathematical dispositions, educators are encouraged to use teaching methods and strategies that emphasize student discovery, probing questions, and real‐world applications of mathematics (Haji et al., 2019; Hutajulu et al., 2019; Yaniawati et al., 2019; Zinatun et al., 2019). While likely to improve all students’ mathematical dispositions, these methods may also work especially well with adult learners given their learning dispositions toward self‐direction and application of material (Cronin‐Golomb & Bauer, 2023; Murtonen & Lehtinen, 2020; Wojecki, 2007).…”

“…Learning is designed using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach which is based on RME principles which support and are appropriate to mathematics learning. The RME approach has also been extensively researched and proven successful in improving the five strands of mathematical proficiency, especially productive disposition (Chua, 2021;Haji et al, 2019;Nuraida et al, 2019). Apart from that, the use of RME also increases students' learning activities more compared to other approaches (Arsaythamby & Zubainur, 2014;Irdawati et al, 2019).…”
