Improving solar photovoltaic installation energy yield using bifacial modules and tracking systems: An analytical approach

Abstract: In this paper, we present the results of a simulation of a 3 MWp photovoltaic plant in Nigeria using four case study scenarios: ground-mounted fixed inclined monofacial, and bifacial photovoltaic installation, as well as monofacial and bifacial photovoltaic installations with trackers. The bifacial gains, tracker gains, and bifacial-tracker gains were calculated for each configuration. The fixed ground-mounted inclined bifacial PV system gained 12% annual average bifacial gain over a fixed ground-mounted monof… Show more

“…Previously, a projection method was carried out using the PV position in flat conditions or at one point on the solar cell where this condition has not been able to produce optimal energy conversion in converting [18]- [21]. Then another problem that occurs is weather fluctuations that occur such as the movement of clouds in covering the sun so that the conversion produced by solar cells into electrical energy drops dramatically [22]- [24]. The solution is to focus on increasing the development and installation of a stand-alone PV system with the concept of using actuator motor technology with two linear motor drives so that the power generated by PV is maximized.…”

“…This hybrid setup aims to improve energy stability, optimize resource utilization, and contribute to the national grid while minimizing environmental impact [26], [27]. The performance of solar PV systems is highly dependent on weather conditions, specifically sunlight availability, solar irradiance, ambient temperature, and system design [28], [29], [30], [31].…”

“…One of the approaches involves the use of lightguides or reflective meshes in the intermediary spaces between the PV cells to reduce and redirect stray light back onto the cells [2,3]. Another method via which the efficiency of such systems can further be enhanced is through the external arrangement of the reflecting ground surface such as grass, sand cement etc [4,5]. In contrast, the method investigated in this work involves material substitution and changes in the layer arrangement of the bifacial panel structure for improved performance.…”
