The communication between nodes in the Internet of Things‐based mobile ad‐hoc networks environment is typically dependent on their selfless attitude. Whenever a node needs to send a message to another node in the network, it needs the help of one or more nodes to act as a router(s) that will bridge the gap between the source and the destination. All these selfless forwarding's require energy, bandwidth, and other resources. Therefore, some routers often raise a link breakage attack to save their resources. They keep silent after receiving a message; neither they acknowledge it nor they forward it. These selfish nodes must be identified and carefully avoided while choosing routes; otherwise, numerous messages will have to be resent, including control messages like route‐request. The identification depends on the past behavior of the node as well as velocity, the direction of movement, current geographical location and so forth. This article presents a support vector machine‐based node classification method that checks whether nodes are intentionally issuing a link breakage attack or it is really out of the radio range of its predecessor. The simulation results of the proposed method demonstrate that the proposed technique can correctly detect most of the selfish activities in the network and that also in much lesser time. It also enhances the packet delivery ratio and reduces delay and energy consumption.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has cultivated a promising environment, pivotal across diverse sectorsvia MANET protocols within the w.w.w. This technology significantly contributes to advanced services for mobiledevices in the MANET-IoT domain. However, MANET encounters security challenges, notably malicious attacksas a prime concern. To counter these threats, preventive measures like subjective-context evaluation and nodeprotection are employed, ensuring data packet integrity before delivery. This study aims to enhance theperformance of a novel reactive protocol, integrated with a fuzzy system within the MANET-IoT environment. Themethodology is implemented in two directions: 1) Establishing a secure network founded on trust parameters andshortest path selection. 2) Incorporating an integrated fuzzy system into an improved reactive routing protocolwithin the MANET environment. Subjective context ensures a secure milieu, evaluating nodes before packetdelivery based on trust and shortest path. The fuzzy system's rules determine the network's probability distribution,contingent upon trust and the number of hop counts. The proposed routing protocol is evaluated both pre- and postattacks during packet transmission. Results demonstrate its superiority in packet transmission over the originalprotocol. Three scenarios evaluate packet delivery fraction (PDF), end-to-end delay (E2E), and normalized routingload (NRL). FS-AODV's percentages were 0.9873% against AODV's 1.9871% without drop) and 0.8419% with adrop for PDF. FS-AODV's percentages stood at 0.0006% against AODV's 0.0007% without a drop and 0.0005%with a drop for E2E. In contrast, FS-AODV's percentage was 0.058%, AODV at 0.0127% without a drop, and0.066% with a drop for NRL.

Summary In mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), cooperative communication and resource constraint are the two important core characteristics essential to guarantee trusted data dissemination. The cooperative communication between mobile nodes depends on the trust rendered by them towards the process of reliable data routing. However, stringent resource constraints of mobile nodes such as energy, memory, communications, and computations result in the introduction of selfish and malicious node that completely degrades the network performance in different dimensions. In this paper, Z number improved reference ideal method (RIM)‐based decision‐making process (NIRIMDMP) is proposed with the merits of maximizing deviation method (MDM) and best–worst method (BWM) to ensure reliable data routing by modeling the cooperation degree in terms of Z number. This NIRIMDMP adopted Z number to represent the information reliability and handle the problem of inherent uncertainty during the process of evaluating each mobile node in the routing process. In specific, MDM and BWM are included into the proposed NIRIMDMP to determine comprehensive attribute weights based on the calculated objective and subjective weights that could be possible derived in routing. It extended the merits of classical RIM using Z numbers to confirm reliable ranking of mobile nodes, even when the optimal solution exists amid extreme values taken into consideration for assessing the mobile nodes during decision making. Simulation investigations of the proposed NIRIMDMP confirmed improved throughput and network lifetime with reduced control overhead, energy consumptions, and delay independent of the amount of malicious and non‐cooperative nodes.
