Improving Resilience of Interdependent Critical Infrastructures via an On-Line Alerting System

Abstract: This paper illustrates the activities under development within the FP7 EU MICIE project. The project is devoted to design and implement an on-line alerting system, able to evaluate, in real time, the level of risk of interdependent Critical Infrastructures (CIs). Such a risk is generated by undesired events and by the high level of interconnection of the different infrastructures. Heterogeneous models are under development to perform short term predictions of the Quality of Service (QoS) of each CI according t… Show more

“…In particular, in the project ATENA [2], we investigate the use of game theory to study the system decision-making strategy to determine optimal security system configurations. The concept of composable security was firstly introduced in the European projects pShield and nShield [3] and it is an aim of this work to expand it to the CPS and CI domain; in this respect, previous related work can be found, for instance, in [3]- [5]. The idea is to develop an "off-line" control which, by optimizing the current system configuration, is aimed at improving the security level of the protected system in the long term, assuring what may be defined as structural security, in contrast with the reaction to cyber-physical attacks that only guarantees an instantaneous response to threats.…”

“…ith the coming widespread deployment of fully electric vehicle (FEV) technology, urban mobility is expected to become more environmentally sustainable and interacting with critical infrastructures [1] like cellular systems [2] and electricity grids [3] [4]. From the distribution system operator (DSO) perspective, this new concept entails the supervision and management of FEVs charging for avoiding an excessive loading of distribution lines [5], but also represents a significant opportunity for the integration of fluctuating renewable energy sources (RES), considering the possibility of using FEVs as flexible loads and managing the availability of charging stations in dependence on the grid state [6].…”
