Improving Productivity of Yard Trucks in Port Container Terminal Using Computer Simulation

Abstract: In port container terminals, reducing vessel turnaround time improves the terminal productivity and increases the capacity of world trades across the globe. This time reduction can be achieved by improving one or more container terminal major resources. Much research has been done on improving container terminal efficiency as a means to reduce vessel turnaround time; however, room still available for improvement. Minimizing the empty journeys of yard trucks could improve container terminal efficiency with reas… Show more

“…The results of numerical experiments presented in [14] demonstrated that a dual cycle for internal trucks in the yard area can reduce the transportation distance of containers, and that the space allocation method based on this strategy was more effective than traditional methods. The simulations conducted in [15] confirmed a notable improvement in regard to maximising productivity and minimising hourly and unit costs; however, the higher usage of QCs has been found to contribute to an increase in their highest observed peak power demand, leading to higher energy-related costs, as discussed in [16].…”

“…Yard trucks (YTs) are used to transport containers between the berth and a storage yard (SY), and scheduling of these yard trucks is a logistic problem inherent in seaport container terminals. The more trucks that move within the same time, the more likely it is that traffic congestion could arise, which would cause delay in the truck cycle time [3], and ultimately results in shipping delays and delay in delivery of trade goods. Delivery operations can take long hours due to congestion [4] at container terminals.…”

“…They have different logic to build different models or tools to analyze input and output data.In addition, the effectiveness of a simulation modeling of a software process simulation model is used to study certain software activities, such as development, maintenance, or evaluation (Kellner (1999)). The development of simulation models is believed to have an impact on the quality of the models produced (Ericksson (2003)) Ahmed and et al (2014). found a lack of material to guide the software process simulation model in producing a software process simulation model, which is why he developed a framework and a guideline for the simulation modeling process Ahmed and et al (2014).…”
