Improving occupational health and safety risk evaluation through decision analysis

Abstract: Risk matrices (RMs) are extensively used for risk management, namely in occupational health and safety (OHS) settings, despite suffering from well-known methodological problems. The IRIS approach (improving RMs) proposes to overcome those problems throughout the construction of value RMs (VRMs) that shift the basis of risk analysis from probability versus impact to probability versus "impact value." This article describes the real-world participatory process of building a VRM for an OHS unit. The complexity of… Show more

“…Therefore, it should be noted that the most HSE opportunities which are created by technology are related to managers' Discussion perceptions and their providence (23)(24)(25)(26). Integrated management (HSE) is a process that needs to be institutionalized in order not to lose its effectiveness, as any other social issue does (27,28). Therefore, the creation of positions specialized for HSE in sports facilities and the work process of sports managers is another complementary component of integrated management development (HSE) in sports facilities (24).…”

“…Concerning preference dependence, there is a need to develop tests with friendly protocols of questioning not only for identifying such issues (as in Oliveira et al), but also to suggest how to make use of distinct model structures in a user-friendly way. Literature already advises on how to restructure models so as to respect additivity, for instance building constructed attributes that integrate preference dependent dimensions [48]; and some studies in health settings have already developed (and applied) user-friendly protocols of questioning to identify preference dependence cases and show how multilinear [195] and Choquet Integral-based models [198] can be built. Some studies in real settings have also explained the rationale for using multiplicative models [172].…”

“…Tremblay and Badri (2018) proposed a novel occupational health and safety tool for small-and medium-sized enterprises to overcome overloading of experts in accident prevention. Oliveira et al (2018) used MACBETH-Choquet integration to model interdependent impacts, and a system of rules to risk probability assessment.…”
