Improving Medical Student Recruitment into Plastic Surgery: Pairing Orphaned Medical Students with Sister Mentorship Programs

Abstract: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery • June 2021 concerns with entering the field from a position of relative disadvantage. Preliminary results show comparable populations considering application to residency when compared to schools with residency programs. “…The permanent replacement of away rotations and interviews with virtual options requires acknowledgment and remediation of the disproportionate effect this would have on orphaned and international medical students. 3 We suggest a further emphasis on program involvement in American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons' virtual webinars to ensure an opportunity for prospective applicants and programs to interact with one another.
