Improving hygiene performance of microfiber synthetic leather base by mixing polyhydroxybutyrate nanofiber

Abstract: Compared with natural leather, microfiber synthetic leather has many excellent properties such as chemical resistance and physical and mechanical properties. However, the preparation of high performance microfiber synthetic leather with excellent water vapor transmission rate, moisture absorption, and wearing comfort property still has a great challenge. The aim of this work was to improve moisture absorbent and transfer abilities by mixing polyhydroxybutyrate hydrophilic nanofibers in microfiber synthetic lea… Show more

“…With improved standards of living, the demand for high-performance, high-quality, and eco-synthetic leather continues to rise. Hence, synthetic leather will develop in the direction of ecological and functional synthetic leather that combines the advantages of good physical properties, multifunctionality, and eco-friendliness [ 133 , 136 , 137 ].…”

“…Furthermore, nanofiber addition made the MSLB denser, resulting in a 24.0% air permeability decrease and a 42.18% increase in softness of MSLB. 8 The "two-step method" was adopted to modify the polyamide MSLB. Firstly, the process involved cross-linking of the aminoterminal hyperbranched polyamides (NH2-HBP) to microfiber synthetic leath MSLB base that was pretreated with formic acid, whereby the crosslinking agent was glutaraldehyde.…”

“…Consequently, an inevitable imitation of natural leather has developed. 7,8,3 Leather base is the key component of finished synthetic leather and is presently divided into three main categories: knitted leather base, woven leather base, and nonwoven leather base. Like natural leather, nonwoven leather base consists of a threedimensional net structure.…”

“…The microfiber synthetic leather is a composite material made of three-dimensional interwoven polyamide microfibers and a polyurethane (PU) film with a microporous structure. However, compared to natural leather, its moisture absorption and permeability properties are poor, making it stuffy to wear, and hence these properties need to be improved. , The nonwoven material of polyamide microfibers is always used as a microfiber synthetic leather substrate. The polyamide fiber is a kind of synthetic fiber with the molecular chain composed of the repeated amide group (CONH) as well as −COOH and −NH 2 at the end of the molecular chain .…”
