Improving high‐tech enterprises' new product development performance through digital transformation: A configurational analysis based on fuzzy‐set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA)

Abstract: This paper investigates conditional configurations for improving high‐tech enterprises' new product development (NPD) performance under complex environment of digital era in China. The results indicate that digital transformation is neither sufficient nor necessary for high NPD performance but a significant component of those configurations for high NPD performance. Through the fuzzy‐set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) approach, four configurations for high NPD performance and four configurations for … Show more

“…The output of fsQCA includes complex, intermediate, and parsimonious solutions. The intermediate solution, which strikes a balance between complexity and necessary conditions (if present), is usually preferred (Liu & Yang, 2023). The nesting relationship between the intermediate solution and the parsimonious solution helps identify the core and marginal conditions that trigger the consequence event (i.e., important influential conditions and auxiliary conditions).…”

“…The improvement and optimization of the business environment enhance business confidence and further promote the efficiency (Bachmann & Elstner, 2015;Liu & Yang, 2023), quality, and resilience (Song et al, 2021) of innovation output. The improvement and optimization of the business environment not only promote the high-quality development of regional enterprises but also enhance their position in the global value chain division of labor (Dai, 2020), thereby contributing to the overall high-quality development of the region (Augier et al, 2012).…”

“…DIT, when effectively implemented, has the potential to optimize and facilitate service innovation activities, leading to enhanced performance outcomes. Despite the acknowledged impact of DIT on financial performance [9,10], innovation performance [11,12], and new product development performance [13,14], limited attention has been given to its effects on SIP [15]. Moreover, current research on DIT predominantly focuses on traditional industries, manufacturing, and service sectors, leaving the DIT of the construction industry in its early development stages.…”
