Improving effects of low-temperature atmospheric plasma on abdominal surgical site infection induced by ESBL-E. coli in rats

Abstract: Surgical site infection (SSI) is one of the most common complications of emergency abdominal surgery. With the increase of drug-resistant bacteria, abdominal SSI cannot be effectively controlled by increasing the use of antibiotics. Nonchemical treatment as an alternative to antibiotics for abdominal SSI induced by drug-resistant bacteria is urgently needed. This study is aimed at exploring the effects of low-temperature atmospheric plasma (LTAP) exposure for 30 and 60 s on abdominal SSI in in vitro and in viv… Show more

“…LTP can be created in many ways including a simple gas discharge, microwave discharge, rf radio frequency (rf) discharge, corona discharge, gliding arc discharge, glow discharge, dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), etc., [ 24 ]. According to how they are built in relation to the treated object, LTP methods can be broadly categorized into three types: direct LTP, indirect LTP, and hybrid LTP [ 25 , 26 , 27 ]. The treated object is considered one of the electrodes in direct LTP.…”

“…Plasma has a wide range of applications, for example, in medical fields [3] and medical diagnosis [4,5], in disinfection and sterilization [6][7][8], cancer treatment [9], wound healing [10], and skin rejuvenation [11]. In the fabric industry, plasma is used to increase strength, water repellency, and fabric dyeability [12].…”
