Improving Detection Efficiency of SARS-CoV-2 Nucleic Acid Testing

Abstract: BackgroundSARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid testing (NAT) has been routinely used for COVID-19 diagnosis during this pandemic; however, there have been concerns about its high false negative rate. We dissected its detection efficiency with a large COVID-19 cohort study.MethodsWe analyzed SARS-CoV-2 NAT positive rates of 4,275 specimens from 532 COVID-19 patients in Sichuan Province with different disease severities, statuses, and stages, as well as different types and numbers of specimens.ResultsThe total positive rate … Show more

“…Therefore, early detection is very important ( Oran and Topol, 2020 ). Currently, the most common methods used to detect SARS-CoV-2 include antibody and nucleic acid testing ( Zhang J. et al, 2020 ; Chan et al, 2021 ; Trenti et al, 2021 ; Wang et al, 2021 ; Zhu et al, 2022 ). Laboratory parameters, severity, and clinical outcomes differ between antibody tests ( Chen et al, 2021 ).…”

“…The increased risk frequency has risen in spreading the pathogenicity from the atmosphere where aerosols play a role in adhesion towards the surfaces. The reservoir of any organism, which may be animate or inanimate objects, in the epidemiology of any bacterial disease is very important [3]. The pathogens live and or multiply in the reservoir on which their survival depends.…”
