Improving Calculation Accuracy of Currents in Cable Shields at Double-Sided Grounding of Three-Phase Cable Line

Abstract: This paper deals with the calculation of currents in shields of single-core cables at double-sided grounding of three-phase cable lines. We consider flat and trefoil cable lines and receive the analytical expressions for RMS currents in the shields of cables. These expressions allow reducing the shield current calculation error to value of 5 %. We analyze the known approximate expressions for RMS currents in the shields of cables and represent dependencies of corresponding calculation errors on cable line dime… Show more

“…The issue of reducing losses is also relevant for cable lines, where currents are induced in the shields of singlecore cables according to a similar mechanism of influence (if there are conditions for their flow) [1, [14][15][16][17].…”

“…The articles [9,10] also raise problems of minimizing power losses in electrical networks. In [11], methods of calculating the currents that can flow through the cable screen in normal mode are considered. In [12,13], it is proposed to identify the aging of cable insulation by currents in screens that are grounded on both sides.…”

“…1,b), the currents in the cores form a system of direct sequence, and the currents in the shields are determined by the following relationships [7,13] : , 2 ln 2 3 2 ln 2 ln 4 ln 2 ln 3 2 ln 2 ln , 2 ln 3 2 ln , 2 ln 2 3 2 ln 2 ln 4 ln 2 ln 3 2 ln 2 ln In the case of trefoil arrangement of the cable line ( Fig. 1,a), the calculation dependence for currents in shields has a more compact form [7,13]:…”
