Improving airline service quality based on rough set theory and flow graphs

Abstract: This study differs from previous studies by applying multivariate statistical analysis and multi-criterion decision-making methods to the improvement of service quality. We use the rough set theory (RST) with a flow graph approach to determine customer attitudes regarding service quality, which can assist managers in developing strategies to improve service quality and thus satisfy the needs of customers. A set of rules is derived from a large sample of airline customers, and its predictive ability is evaluate… Show more

“…Consequently, Namukasa (2013) argued that delivering better service quality in the airline industry, the customer is of prime importance because nowadays, airline passengers are more focused on the service quality they experience. Several researchers reported the same research finding (Hussain et al, 2015;Liou et al, 2016;Jiang & Zhang, 2016 satisfaction (Li et al, 2017). Gupta (2018) has used the 'Best Worst Method' to grade a range of service quality attributes in airlines and has concluded that the "tangibility" dimension is the most vital element of service quality.…”

“…Pawlak [28] developed a soft computing method named rough set theory (RSA), which involves determining the behavior pattern between decision and condition attributes on the mathematical basis of set theory. The RSA also enables the simultaneous processing of quantitative and qualitative data [29]. The theory enables the processing of inconsistent information without prior knowledge [30], such as probability distribution.…”

“…Zhai et al [46] used rough numbers, a set of interval values that are clearly transformed from a crisp group, to show subjectivity and imprecise human thinking in a multiple-attribute decision-making (MADM) environment. Since the application of rough number theory to address decision problems does not require any auxiliary information, the theory is better able to capture the perception of experts [47][48][49]. The detailed steps are as follows:…”
