Improvement of the Translation Stage for the Transmission Topographic Goniometer

Abstract: The Jarrell-Ash-Lang goniometer (manufactured by Picker X-Ray since 1970) is equipped with a Schneeberger stage to provide the accurate translational motion necessary for x-ray topographs. The commercial model produces striations on the topographs perpendicular to the scanning direction. These are caused by a torque exerted on the stage by the drive mechanism. This difficulty has been remedied by design changes.
