Improvement of photon correlation spectroscopy method for measuring nanoparticle size by using attenuated total reflectance

Abstract: Photon correlation spectroscopy is an effective method for measuring nanoparticle sizes and has several advantages over alternative methods. However, this method suffers from a disadvantage in that its measuring accuracy reduces in the presence of convective flows of fluid containing nanoparticles. In this paper, we propose a scheme based on attenuated total reflectance in order to reduce the influence of convection currents. The autocorrelation function for the light-scattering intensity was found for this ca… Show more

“…There are many techniques to estimate the particle size and particle size distribution for analyzing the dry powders and dispersed powder in suspension. These techniques are photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS), surface area analysis (BET), x-ray diffraction peak broadening analysis and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) (Krishtop et al 2012;Arvaniti et al 2015;Caputo et al 2021).…”

“…For example, magnetic fluids are used to polish optical components, and suspensions of silica particles in liquid crystals significantly improve the characteristics of optical storage devices [1][2]. We also note their use in chemical processes (catalysis), in the creation of new drugs, lubricants and so on [3][4][5][6][7]. With the growth of the productivity of electronic devices and the development of high-energy technologies, it has become necessary to create efficient cooling systems and control large heat flows [8].…”
