Improvement of cavitation resistance of composite films using functionalized alumina particles

Abstract: Composite films having the UV cured Bis-GMA (Bisphenol A glycidylmethacrylate)/TEGDMA (triethylene glycol dimethacrylate) as a matrix and the ferrous oxide doped alumina (Al 2 O 3 Fe) based particles were prepared and subjected to cavitation. In order to improve the mechanical and adhesion properties of composites, four different surface modifications of filler particles were performed: 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MEMO), vinyltris(2-methoxyethoxy)silane (VTMOEO), (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (APTM… Show more

“…Morphological parameters of particles were determined using the image analysis tools (Image-Pro Plus 6.0, Media Cybernetics Inc., Cambridge, UK). 16 X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) patterns were recorded with an Ital Structure APD2000 X-ray diffractometer in a Bragg-Brentano geometry using CuKa radiation (l ¼ 1.5418 Å ) and step-scan mode (range: 20À80 2q, step-time: 0.5 s, step-width: 0.02 ).…”

“…The particles were calcinated at 900 °C. The particle size was determined by the laser particle size analyzer (PSA) Mastersizer 2000 (Malvern Instruments Ltd., UK) and the values obtained are: d(0.1) = 0.412 µm, d(0.5) = 0.608 µm, d(0.9) = 1.208 µm [14,15].…”
