Improvement of Bacterial Vaginosis by Oral Lactobacillus Supplement: A Randomized, Double-Blinded Trial

Abstract: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginal infection globally, with a high recurrent rate after antibiotic treatment. Probiotics consumption is known to improve BV with different efficacy among species or strains. After in vitro selection of Lactobacillus strains with growth inhibition and preventing adhesion to HeLa cervical epithelial cells, a randomized and double-blinded trial of two Lactobacillus formula, namely, VGA-1 and VGA-2, in BV patients with Nugent scores of 4–10 was conducted. Among 37 s… Show more

“…GMNL-185 and GMNL-680 are known to improve bacterial vaginosis by which GMNL-185 inhibits the growth of Gardnerella vaginalis ( G. vaginalis ) and GMNL-680 inhibits Streptococcus agalactiae ( S. agalactiae ) and Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ). 68 Moreover, GMNL-185 plays roles for modifying the gut microbiota to decrease the levels of depression-related metabolites 69 or inhibit the growth of Helicobacter pylori ( H. pylori ) in mice, thereby, ameliorating inflammation in stomach. 70 GMNL-185 strain has potentials of anti-depressive and treated of gastrointestinal diseases.…”

“…Питому вагу серед них мають бактеріальний вагіноз (БВ) та аеробний вагініт (АВ). За даними літератури, бактеріальний вагіноз зустрічається від 15% до 50% випадків серед жінок репродуктивного віку в усьому світі [1,2]. Аеробний вагініт виявляється у 8-11% вагітних жінок та в 5-24% жінок, які скаржаться на вагінальні виділення [3,4].…”
