Improvement of Asthma Therapy by a Novel Budesonide Multidose Dry Powder Inhaler

Abstract: The objective of the present post-marketing surveillance (PMS) was the evaluation of efficacy, tolerability and acceptance of the novel budesonide (CAS 51333-22-3) multidose dry powder inhaler (MDPI) Novopulmon 200 Novolizer. A total of 3,057 patients suffering from allergic, non-allergic or mixed bronchial asthma were included in the PMS. “…Compliance to medication is largely dependent on the patient’s attitude toward the medications they are prescribed. The acceptance, compliance, and preference of inhaler medications and devices for asthma have been extensively studied generally (13), individually (14–16), and comparatively (17–20). Factors (21–23) and measures (24, 25) to improve compliance have also been widely studied.…”

“…4 In line with the newly introduced asthma management approach, which emphasizes the monitoring of disease control to facilitate acceptance and use of asthma guidelines in clinical practice, 5 the use of combined therapies in which inhaled corticosteroids are given mainly in combination with long-acting beta-2 adrenoceptor agonists [5][6][7] has been recommended. However, correct inhalation technique plays a vital role in effective asthma therapy, alongside appropriate drug usage, 8 which otherwise may lead to diminished therapeutic effect, poor control of symptoms, and therefore insufficient disease management. 9 There a limited number of validated questionnaires on inhaler techniques and a growing need for a valid and reliable measurement tool of patient preferences.…”
