Improvement in Water Resistance of Desulfurized Gypsum by Novel Modification of Silicone Oil Paraffin Composite Emulsion-based Waterproofing Agent

Abstract: In this study, dimethyl silicone oil and liquid paraffin were combined and subsequently emulsified; the resulting mixture was innovatively incorporated into desulfurized gypsum to resolve its drawback of a poor water resistance. The waterproof mechanism of the composite emulsion and liquid paraffin emulsion with mass fractions of 1%, 2%, 3%, and 4% were investigated. The effect of the desulfurized gypsum on the waterproof performance and basic mechanical properties were also investigated. The configuration of … Show more

“…Gypsum can creep under static loads in humid environments (9)(10)(11)(12), resulting in deformation of gypsum-based building materials. Some scholars used silicone oil paraffin composite emulsion-based waterproofing agent to improve the softening coefficient of the gypsum test block (13). The study indicated that when the content of silicone oil-paraffin composite emulsion waterproofing agent was 1%, the softening coefficient reached 0.89, representing a 60% increase in the softening coefficient.…”

“…Gips może ulegać pełzaniu pod wpływem obciążeń statycznych w środowiskach wilgotnych (9)(10)(11)(12), co prowadzi do deformacji materiałów budowlanych z gipsu. Niektórzy badacze użyli jako środka hydroizolacyjnego emulsji kompozytowej z olejem silikonowym i parafiną do poprawy współczynnika rozmiękania bloku testowego z gipsu (13). Badanie wskazało, że gdy zawartość emulsji z oleju silikonowego i parafiny wynosiła 1%, współczynnik rozmiękania osiągnął wartość 0,89, co oznacza jego zwiększenie o 60%.…”

“…This significantly limits their large-scale industrial application in the field of functional building materials [16]. At present, the main methods for improving the hydrophobicity of PG-based materials include the addition of an internal doping-type waterproofing agent [17,18], inorganic gel material modification [19][20][21], and the preparation and application of a surface hydrophobic coating [22][23][24]. Among these, the method of preparing and applying a hydrophobic coating on the surface of PG is not only simple and efficient but also does not negatively influence the compressive and flexural strength of the PG blocks [25].…”
