Improved TMD factorization for forward dijet production in dilute-dense hadronic collisions

Abstract: We study forward dijet production in dilute-dense hadronic collisions. By considering the appropriate limits, we show that both the transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) and the high-energy factorization formulas can be derived from the Color Glass Condensate framework. Respectively, this happens when the transverse momentum imbalance of the dijet system, k t , is of the order of either the saturation scale, or the hard jet momenta, the former being always much smaller than the latter. We propose a new formula f… Show more

“…It is easy to verify that the non-vanishing leading term of such power expansion is identical to the hard part appears in the TMD factorization formula using the Ward identity argument [5,[57][58][59]. The similar equivalence between the TMD and the CGC has also been established for the dense medium region case [20,21,29,31].…”

“…This has been extended to finite N c and polarization dependent cases for heavy quark production in pA collisions in ref. [28], as well as to other channels for two particle production in pA collisions [36][37][38].…”

“…The combination of quarkonium production at small x may thus be expected to yield rather clean signals of gluon TMD effects, because the small x-values enhance the gluon contributions and the quarkonium acts as a filter, reducing the contribution from quarks even further. The small-x limit also allows consideration of a larger class of processes, because certain factorization breaking partonic subprocesses may become suppressed in this limit, resulting effectively in a restoration of TMD factorization or in some form of hybrid factorization involving both TMDs and collinear distributions [46,47]. The latter is often considered for the process p A → h X.…”

“…In contrast to dijet production in DIS, dijet production in p A collisions, probes a combination of six unpolarized gluon TMDs [47], which reduce to a combination of DP and WW TMDs in the large-N c limit. It will be extremely hard to extract these six TMDs from experiment.…”
