Improved Synchronous Machine Rotor Design for the Easy Assembly of Excitation Coils Based on Surrogate Optimization

Abstract: This paper introduces a new rotor design for the easy insertion and removal of rotor windings. The shape of the rotor is optimized based on a surrogate method in order to achieve low power loss under the maximum power output. The synchronous machine with the new rotor is evaluated in 2-D finite element software and validated by experiments. This rotor shows great potential for reducing the maintenance and repair costs of synchronous machines, making it particularly suited for low-cost mass production markets i… Show more

“…e torque profiles of these topologies are further improved by utilizing an optimal design method in [24]. In [25], the performance of WRSMs was improved by changing the tip structure of the rotor poles. In [26], a WRSM topology was proposed to enhance its performance by placing a rare-earth magnet between the rotor poles.…”

“…They are used as round-pole high-speed turbo alternators in thermal power plants. It has also been used in wind power plants in recent years [1]. Synchronous generators are electrical machines that are mostly preferred to provide high capacity power generation and produced at different power levels from a few kVA to hundreds of MVA [2].…”
