Improved Space Vector Modulation for Neutral-Point Balancing Control in Hybrid-Switch-Based T-Type Neutral-Point-Clamped Inverters With Loss and Common-Mode Voltage Reduction

Abstract: This paper compares different space vector modulation (SVM) strategies for neutral-point voltage balancing (NPVB) control in three-level (3-L) T-type neutral-point-clamped (TNPC) inverters, and proposes an improved SVM trimmed for NPVB control in hybrid-switch-based 3-L TNPC inverter with the features of loss and common-mode voltage (CMV) reduction. The proposed SVM strategy uses a new principle of small vector selection and vector sequence, and thus, it can balance the neutral point (NP) potential and achieve… Show more

“…Now their applications has included electric vehicles and power conditioning units [1]- [2].In the MLIs, the switches voltage stressreduces to a considerable level, and the output voltage waveform with reduced THD is achieved [3]. Various popular and established multilevel inverters are NPC (neutral point clamped) [4], CHB (cascaded H bridge) [5] and FC (flying capacitor) multilevel inverter. In CHB-MLI, as the number of voltage levels increase, the number of isolated DC sources increases considerably.…”

“…An SVPWM algorithm, including the impedance source shoot-through state for three-level converters, was developed in [39]. In [40], neutral point voltage control is addressed and in [41], the PWM algorithm considers a common-mode voltage reduction that is directly associated with leakage currents, being an important variable in transformerless inverters.…”

“…These converters can generate output voltages of the better harmonic spectrum and reduced THD levels through appropriate switching [3]. The conventional multilevel inverters are the neutral point clamped multilevel inverter (NPC-MLI) [4], cascaded H bridge inverter and flying capacitor multilevel inverter (FC-MLI). With the increase in the output voltage levels count, a number of the flying capacitors in FC-MLI, the number of the clamping diodes in NPC-MLI and the number of isolated DC sources in CHB-MLI increases considerably.…”
