Improved processability ofPA66‐polyimidecopolymers with different polyimide contents

Abstract: Limitations in the properties of polyamide PA66, such as low glass transition temperature and high water absorptivity, limit its applications. Introduction of amorphous polyimide segments into the PA66 main chain lowers the glass transition temperature and melting temperature and also improves its processability. PA66-polyimide (PA-PI) copolymers with different weight ratios of PI are prepared by high temperature and high-pressure solution polymerization. The degree of crystallization of PA-PI copolymers decre… Show more

“…The CN stretching vibration (amide III) is primarily responsible for the absorption peak at 1296 cm −1 . The formation of the 856 and 639 cm −1 absorption peaks results from the CH on the benzene ring vibrating out‐of‐plane 24 . All of these distinctive absorption peaks agree with earlier studies of nylons.…”

“…The formation of the 856 and 639 cm À1 absorption peaks results from the C H on the benzene ring vibrating out-of-plane. 24 All of these distinctive absorption peaks agree with earlier studies of nylons. The appearance of these characteristic absorption peaks proved the formation of amide groups in the product, indicating that the target products were synthesized basically.…”

“…Aromatic polyimides (PIs) have been receiving attention as high-performance polymers because of their rigid imide and aromatic ring structures. They are classified as high-performance polymers and used widely in aerospace, membranes, microelectronics, and optoelectronics due to their excellent thermal and mechanical properties and chemical resistance. For example, a PI powder prepared from pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and 4,4′-oxydianiline (ODA) is a lightweight and heat-resistant compression-molding material. A commercial example of PMDA-ODA PI, DuPont Corporation’s Vespel SP-1 product, is machined into bearings or sealing parts that are used under extremely harsh conditions. The compression-molding process ensures that the PI particles coalesce tightly, in what is called a sintering process. , The molecular weight, degree of crystallinity, and specific surface area of the PI powder are known to influence the sintering behavior. …”
