Improved processability and optimized preparing process for fire‐safe poly (ethylene terephthalate) by electron effect modified Schiff base

Abstract: To get better processability and preparing process of Poly (ethylene terephthalate) polymer, ‐NO2 was used to modify Schiff Base to synthesize a novel flame retardant monomer of 5‐([3‐nitrobenzylidene] amino) isophthalic acid (BNA) to prepare flame retardant and anti‐dripping PET copolyester (BNAnPETs), where the electron effect of ‐NO2 passivate the cross‐linking reactivity of BNA in BNAnPETs to enhance its cross‐linking temperature to improve its processing zone with better processability. The results demons… Show more

“…Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) is a fossil-based polymer synthesized using terephthalic acid (PTA) and ethylene glycol. PET has excellent mechanical properties, solvent resistance, heat resistance, and low price and has been used in packaging, decoration, electronics, and electrical appliances. With the promotion of carbon neutral strategies in the world, bio-based polymers have been of interest specially . Preparation of poly(ethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate) (PEF) using furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) instead of PTA is the development trend of polyester materials.…”

“…Schiff base compounds as nitrogen-based ame retardant have been used in many polymer materials in recent years. Such as epoxy resins (EP) [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10], unsaturated polyesters (UP) [11][12][13], polyethylene terephthalate (PET) [14][15][16], and polyamides (PA) [17][18][19][20][21], etc. Schiff base applied to TPU has also been reported.…”
