“…Although the nasal swab collection from the inferior turbinate might appear less representative of the respiratory tract for the study of lung pathologies, in comparison to the NLF this procedure overcomes the major drawbacks of NLF collection, which suffers from high amounts of blood serum proteins . Additionally, the use of hypertonic saline in NLF as washing solution if on one hand yields enhanced protein concentrations in NLF samples on the other leads to intense irritation of nasal mucosa and therefore to falsified results .
