Improved polarization purity for circular microstrip antenna with defected patch surface

Abstract: A simple and compact microstrip antenna of circular geometry with circular cut defected patch surface has been proposed for significant suppression of cross-polarized (XP) radiation compared with maximum co-polarized gain without affecting the co-polarized radiation pattern at its dominant mode. This will enhance the polarization purity in the radiation performance of the proposed antenna. About 27–28 dB isolation between co-polarized and XP radiations is achieved with the proposed structure. The present struc… Show more

“…Perfect matching over the entire bandwidth is reported by introducing a circular disk elements in the radiator, UWB characteristics has been reported . For achieving the UWB characteristics for multiple applications, microstrip‐fed antenna designs and circular and elliptical coplanar fed slots have been suggested . Two bands (2.4‐6.1 GHz and 9.4‐13.8 GHz) have been achieved with parasitic slot and patch .…”

“…Bandwidth enhancement was reported due to tilted patch and defected partial ground plane . By introduction of CPW‐fed circular slot, broadband characteristics have been achieved with increased radiation performance . By reducing the ground plane effects by cutting a notch from the radiator in the small printed antenna, the UWB characteristics have been demonstrated .…”

“…1. Defected patch structure to improve XP radiation performance is relatively new technique and firstly it is employed for circular patch geometry by present authors [16]. Earlier, no literatures are found where XP reduction issues are addressed by cutting slots on the patch.…”
