Improved patient quality of life following intradural extramedullary spinal tumor resection

Abstract: OBJECTIVE Resection significantly improves the clinical symptoms and functional outcomes of patients with intradural extramedullary tumors. However, patient quality of life following resection has not been adequately investigated. The aim in this retrospective analysis of prospectively collected quality of life outcomes is to analyze the efficacy of resection of intradural extramedullary spinal tumors in terms of quality of life markers. This is consistent with results from other studies that showed good outcomes in 87% of patients 7,24 .…”

“…Intradural extramedullary spinal tumors are the most common type of spinal tumors that may result in serious morbidity related to progressive neurologic deficits. [1][2][3] Among them, meningiomas and schwannomas are the two most common histologic subtypes, which comprise 55-90% of all intradural extramedullary spinal tumors. [4,5] Although both tumors are mostly benign, there is a substantial difference between the surgical techniques for removing each.…”
