Improved Holographic QCD and the Quark--Gluon Plasma

Abstract: We review construction of the improved holographic models for QCDlike confining gauge theories and their applications to the physics of the Quark-gluon plasma. We also review recent progress in this area of research. The lecture notes start from the vacuum structure of these theories, then develop calculation of thermodynamic and hydrodynamic observables and end with more advanced topics such as the holographic QCD in the presence of external magnetic fields. This is a summary of the lectures presented at

“…From a general point of view, we note that despite the fact that the holographic model considered in this article is one of the most realistic holographic approaches available for QCD -that compares well with QCD data in the various sectors [115,116] -there is room for improvement. For applications at finite magnetic field, it would be important to implement up and down type quarks in the model, so that the magnetic field would couple to the physical charge rather than baryon number.…”

Thus, holography correctly encodes the smallness of the Reynolds 3 Far more sophisticated models are available: see for example [22,23] and references therein. 4 See [25][26][27] for recent (non-holographic) theoretical perspectives on this question.…”

“…I will discuss this in more detail in connection to the determination of the full V-QCD model below. For a more detailed account on the IHQCD part, see the reviews [229,236]. But before determining the model through comparison to data I review the general structure of the flavor sector.…”
