“…Corrosion behavior is often one of the key characteristic of metallic material, as cytotoxicity and biocompatibility are related to the corrosion process products. According to reports, 46% of patients who are treated with fixed appliances, will suffer from demineralization within 12 months [ 14 , 15 ]. Much research has been done on reducing the friction between brackets and archwires using surface treatments such as ion implantation, polyethylene coating and poly(tetrafluoroethylene) coating on the archwires and/or brackets.…”

“…Radiofrequency magnetron sputtering is an effective technique on account of its inherent versatility, low-temperature deposition and uniform surface coverage [ 15 , 38 , 39 ]. The sputtering method removes surface atoms from a solid cathode by bombarding it with positive ions from an inert gas, for example argon, discharges, and next deposits them on the surface to create a thin layer.…”

“…A representative example of this great multifunctionality related to TiO 2 NPs can be found in Reference [54], where its specific mechanism action is clearly explained, whereas potential applications of titanium dioxide materials can be found in Reference [55]. According to this, the use of these nanoparticles makes possible the fabrication of advanced coatings with improved corrosion resistance and antibacterial properties due to its intrinsic excellent antimicrobial properties [56,57]. Moreover, other research of the TiO 2 -based materials can be found in environmental and energy related applications, such as photocatalysis and photovoltaics [58,59].…”

“…Namely, the Raman spectrum obtained from the “black spots” found in the unexposed and both exposed SS samples resembles the Raman signature of anatase (polymorph modification of TiO 2 ) (Ohsaka, Izumi, & Fujiki, ). This thin‐film coating aims to improve corrosion resistance and antibacterial properties (Ghasemi et al, ; Liu et al, ; Özyildiz et al, ).…”
