Improved algorithm for mobile large scale sensor networks based on LEACH protocol

Abstract: This paper addresses the problem of mobility in large scale wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Our objective is to propose an improved routing algorithm based on LEACH protocol when the nodes are mobile. We, firstly, redefine the analytical energy model when nodes are mobile. According to this model, we calculate the corresponding nodes' energies and the round time length for both mobile single-hop and multihop LEACH. Based on these new metrics, our algorithm is not only appropriate but also energy-efficient for… Show more

“…Then, the mobile multi-hop LEACH is designed to support for some large-scale outdoor applications. Simulation results proved that the proposed protocols (mobile and static LEACH for the mono and multi-hop architecture) improve the performance of the heterogeneous MWSNs as in terms of network lifetime, exchanged packet rate, delay and loss packet rate [31].…”

“…Even dynamic clustering improves the lifetime of the network; the static LEACH is not suitable for the large scale mobile wireless sensor networks; therefore, LEACH with mobility must be considered for the dynamic networks. The LEACH variants such as T-LEACH, mobile LEACH, and LEACH-mobile-enhanced are considered for the mobile sensor networks [29][30][31][32]. Wireless Sensor Networks -Insights and Innovations…”

“…One of the main benefits of hierarchical clustering is that it improves network lifetime by efficient utilization of energy. The number of alive nodes (NAN) is an important performance parameter for calculating network life time [36]. Figure 4a–d and Figure 5a–d refer to RPGM, RWP, GM and MH datasets with two different speeds, respectively.…”

“…Consequently, it drains CL energy. A mobile LEACH algorithm for large-scale networks was proposed by Souid et al [36], where energy is considered as the main component, defining three levels of energies with round time length. However, it has applications for only small scale static sensor network.…”
