Impregnation of ZnO onto a Vegetal Activated Carbon from Algerian Olive Waste: A Sustainable Photocatalyst for Degradation of Ethyl Violet Dye

Abstract: This study is aimed at developing a simple and low-cost method to fabricate ZnO-loaded porous activated carbon (AC-ZnO) prepared from the Algerian olive-waste cakes and utilize it as a photocatalyst for the degradation of Ethyl Violet dye. The synthesized AC-ZnO material was characterized using powder X-ray diffraction, BET surface area measurements, Raman microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and zeta potential measurements. The degradation efficiency was evaluat… Show more

“…To investigate their role in the degradation of MB assisted by W-modified TiO2/SiO2 catalyst, decomposition experiments were conducted with the addition of KI, IPA, BQ, and DMSO which were reported to be highly reactive to h + , • OH, • O 2and e -, respectively. [43][44][45] It is clear that the presence of all four scavengers hinders the decolorization of MB, RhB, MO and CR dyes. DMSO The photocatalytic activity of W-modified TiO2/SiO2 in the visible light region can be explained by the photocatalytic mechanism of the semiconductors.…”

“…In 2009, Martínez and Venturini successfully demonstrated the synthesis of copper decorated on activated carbon. [226] They used industrial rubbishes such as grape stalk and apricot core as a source for the activated carbon and a copper salt that In 2019, Abdessemed et al successfully developed an efficient and simple method for the synthesis of ZnO NPs loaded on porous activated carbon (ACÀ ZnO) [227] from Algerian olive-waste cakes. The synthesized ACÀ ZnO was used as a catalyst for Ethyl Violet degradation.…”
