Importância da conformidade dos equipamentos de ultra-som terapêutico com a NBR-IEC 1689

Abstract

The ultrasound is a much used device on physical therapy clinical practice. Studies on its effi cacy in a large group of diseases treated by physical therapy are frequently published, adopting many possible acoustic parameters with the ultrasonic equipment to obtain the cure. In a similar way many works that intend to characterize the acoustic fi eld produced by this device, as well as the evaluation of ultrasound equipments show that most part of them brings two or more parameters out of the calibration. The scope of this paper is to advise the physical therapist on the importance of the calibration and the importance of this familiarization in accordance with the NBR-IEC 1689, which is the nowadays standard in Brazil that prescribes the performance and methods of measurement of acoustic fi eld for therapeutic ultrasonic devices with frequency band from 0.5 to 5 MHz.
