e-Learning is popular in various developed countries, but it is still underutilized in many developing countries. During COVID-19, when technology was utilized to overcome these obstacles in delivering education globally, e-Learning became widespread in developing nations. In turn, this promoted e-Learning in all types of educational institutions, specifically in higher-level institutions, such as universities. e-Learning has become vital to students’ learning and academic achievement. Despite the positive global impact of e-Learning, Bangladesh’s situation is quite different. Where socio-economic inequality and the digital divide are pervasive, it results in unequal learning gains and opportunities for university students. Consequently, this affects students’ academic achievements. Despite the importance of the topic, there is an existing knowledge gap. This study aims to fill the gap by investigating the effect of e-Learning on the academic achievements of university students in Bangladesh. The study utilizes a mixed methodology. A total of 275 university students participated in this study. The findings of this study demonstrated that students lack access to technological devices and digital literacy, which, in turn, has negatively affected their academic achievement in conjunction with the advancement of e-Learning. Hence, this study recommends that the government offset adverse effects to ensure students utilize e-Learning appropriately.

Purpose Private universities in Ghana are perceived to offer low-quality education, even though the few studies conducted have produced contradictory findings. In addition to the paucity of research in this area, the debate has not largely reflected the views of alumni. This study aims to present the perspectives of a major stakeholder group in education on the quality of the accounting programme offered by a chartered private university in Ghana. Design/methodology/approach A survey questionnaire was sent to 150 alumni from a private university who graduated between 2011 and 2015 to gather data and analysed using descriptive statistical methods and hierarchical factor analysis. Findings In contrast to the perception of low-quality programmes in private universities in Ghana, the alumni group believed that the private institution offered good-quality accounting programmes. The accounting programme was accessed to be fit for its purpose, and it has generally transformed the lives of the alumni group, thus making the programme meet their quality expectations. Practical implications The study’s findings are an important contribution to the debate on the quality of private universities programmes in general and specifically in accounting. Originality/value Although some research has been done on quality assurances and accounting programmes in public universities in Ghana, the authors know very little about the quality in private universities. The study presents the opinions of an alumni group on the controversy over private universities quality of education. This study closes a gap in the literature.

The Impact of Human Capital Development on the Sustainability and Innovativeness of Deposit Money Banks’ Workforces

In recent times, there have been calls by scholars and experts for the need to investigate the influence of human capital development (HCD) on the workforce’s innovativeness and the sustainability of businesses. To respond to this call for empiricism, this study examines the impact of human capital developments (HCD) on deposit money banks’ (DMBs’) ability to survive and sustain the innovativeness of their personnel. To achieve this, the research employed a descriptive survey design in its investigation. Five DMBs in Lagos State, Nigeria were chosen as study participants, based on their years in financial operations, staff strength, and the locations of their offices both inside and outside of the country. Amongst these DMBs are the United Bank for Africa, Access Bank, First Bank of Nigeria, Ecobank, and Zenith Bank. Human capital development significantly improves the sustainability and innovativeness of the workforce in these DMBs, as evidenced by the findings of the hypothesis test using regression analysis (r = 0.767; F = 62.720; t = 7.920; p = 0.05). This leads to the conclusion that HCD supports and fosters workforce innovation and creativity, as well as the company’s overall capacity for sustainable strategic competencies.
