Implicit: a multi-agent recommendation system for web search

Abstract: For people with non-ordinary interests, it is hard to search for information on the Internet because search engines are impersonalized and are more focused on "average" individuals with "standard" preferences. In order to improve web search for a community of people with similar but specific interests, we propose to use the implicit knowledge contained in the search behavior of groups of users. We developed a multi-agent recommendation system called Implicit, which supports web search for groups or communities… Show more

“…It is generally regarded that the agent concept came from the Dartmouth conference launched together by the father of artificial intelligence, a computer scientist Marvin Ming and the founder of framework theory, J. McCarthy in 1956. With the development of science and technology, the agent is given more and more new features and is generally with three basic features shown in Figure1 [9]. Autonomy means that it is without persons or other devices' direct interference and with the ability to control their own behavior; Groups means that it can work with other agents together to achieve shared goals; Self-adaption means that it is with the ability to change their behavior by learning.…”

“…Autonomy means that it is without persons or other devices' direct interference and with the ability to control their own behavior; Groups means that it can work with other agents together to achieve shared goals; Self-adaption means that it is with the ability to change their behavior by learning. An agent system includes four dimensional connotations such as agent, environment, interaction and organization shown in Figure2 [9]. The agent means the internal inference.…”

“…The agent analyse the behavior of such people to identify their interest. The system adopts the implicit culture approach for recommending web links and exploits social ties existing within the community [7] Sometimes, a web page pointed by link is disappeared or moved to another location. In this case, the web user tries to find the pages related to the broken link through several resources. However, this work is not easy and time consuming.…”

“…See [8] for the description of Implicit, an agent-based recommendation system for the web search, which improves the search for information for a community of users with similar interests. When a user submits a query, Implicit looks for the relevant information, exploiting observations of the behavior of other users when they have issued similar queries.…”
