Implication of Mutual Assistance Evacuation Model to Reduce the Volcanic Risk for Vulnerable Society: Insight from Mount Merapi, Indonesia

Abstract: The successful evacuation of vulnerable people during emergencies is a significant challenge. In the case of a Mount Merapi eruption, limited private vehicles in the community and a lack of evacuation transport and government volunteers led some people to walk to the meeting area. Consequently, low walking speeds by vulnerable persons may increase the risk and delay. Therefore, the mutual assistance strategy is proposed to support vulnerable people by evacuating them with young people. This grouping was simula… Show more

“…A positive correlation was found between self-assessment of ability to evacuate themselves (Q1) and their families (Q2) during a disaster and altruism. This result is consistent with studies that show that evacuation from disasters involves a variety of social support and that altruism is related to it ( 6 , 35 ). Awareness of the possibility of disaster (Q5) was related to problem-solving, and etiquette.…”

“…The disaster mitigation process based on the local wisdom and the knowledge of rapid evacuation will be more effective if it is taught in elementary schools and well-coordinated from home. It is presented in the research in 2022 in terms of evacuation model to reduce the volcanic risk in Mount Merapi, Indonesia (Chasanah & Sakakibara 2022 :8110).…”

“…In addition, the software is versatile, providing both highly-detailed analysis of the behavior of the system over time in addition to the more summarized information; that is, while having "native" software elements such as agent, delay, source and sink, it also allows various functions and events to be programmed within the model. Furthermore, the 2D and 3D visualizations offered by AnyLogic provide verification and validation, thus avoiding bugs and other data inaccuracies due to programming and/or modeling failures (Taylor, 2014;Avdeeva et al, 2020;Borges et al, 2020;Chasanah & Sakakibara, 2022).…”
