Implementing Metaheuristic Optimization Algorithms with JECoLi

Abstract: This work proposes JECoLi -a novel Java-based library for the implementation of metaheuristic optimization algorithms with a focus on Genetic and Evolutionary Computation based methods. The library was developed based on the principles of flexibility, usability, adaptability, modularity, extensibility, transparency, scalability, robustness and computational efficiency. The project is opensource, so JECoLi is made available under the GPL license, together with extensive documentation and examples, all included … Show more

“…The experimental simulations were run on a publicly available optimization framework, NetOpt [13], previously developed by the authors, in which the optimization meta-heuristic algorithms are provided by a Java-based library, JEColi [6]. An OSPF routing simulator is used to accommodate the traffic demands onto the networks topology arcs, and therefore enabling the application of the congestion evaluation function Φ * .…”

“…A module containing specific optimization routines was created for feed optimization and related tasks. This module uses JECoLi (Evangelista, Maia, & Rocha, 2009) that contains generic optimization routines based on metaheuristic search algorithms. Some adaptations had to be made in order to use these algorithms to support feed optimizations (Rocha et al, 2004;Mendes, Rocha, Ferreira, & Rocha, 2006).…”

“…Regarding the EA engine, we adopted a general EA, as implemented in the JECoLi Java library. 25 First, there is an initial population with P individuals. New solutions are bred through the use of random respectful recombination 26 and random mutation operators:…”
