Purpose: Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning (DDMRP) aims to deal with variability by adjusting inventory levels while maintaining, or even increasing, customer service levels. This approach bridges the push and pull approaches. Even though it first made its appearance in 2011, research in this field remains relatively limited. This paper aims to measure the spatiotemporal evolution of the DDMRP, its scope and context of implementation, and the research lines studied in that field in order to identify areas that still need to be addressed by future researchers.Design/methodology/approach: The systematic literature review approach adopted in this paper examines research dealing with the DDMRP approach published in different languages between 2009 and 2020. To-date papers focused on the performance analysis and comparison, what differentiates this study is the focus on the scientific evolution level of DDMRP, the parameters, and contexts that should be more studied.Findings: The results show that DDMRP is not yet a mature method and that the robustness of the approach still needs to be tested. More research is also required to determine scientifically some setting parameters, how the proposed DDMRP could be implemented in different industrial contexts with existing information systems.Originality/value: Based on the evolution analysis of DDMRP, this study outlines its current state of maturity and its different shortcomings under a broader vision to make this method more complete on the scientific and industrial level.

Uma forma para se obter vantagem competitiva é gerenciar de forma eficaz a Cadeia de Suprimentos (SC, do original Supply Chain) que tem como objetivo a maximização da oferta de produto ou serviço ao cliente final e minimização de todos os custos e ativos incorridos para atender à solicitação do cliente. Diante deste cenário, diversas empresas estão passando por transformações em suas respectivas SC e em seus métodos e sistemas de planejamento. Uma transformação identificada é a Cadeia de Suprimentos Dirigida pela Demanda (DDSC, do original Demand Driven Supply Chain); esta se caracteriza por ter o consumidor final considerado como parte integrante. Outra transformação é a implementação do novo método de planejamento Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning (DDMRP), que reformula a lógica do Material Requirement Planning (MRP) e agrega elementos do Distribuition Resource Planning (DRP), Lean, Six Sigma e Teoria da Restrições (TOC). Tudo isso, alinhado com a existente lacuna de pesquisa frente à escassez de literatura sobre as etapas necessárias para implementar o DDMRP com sucesso, o presente projeto de pesquisa tem como objetivo desenvolver a fundamentação teórica relacionada aos principais temas de pesquisa por meio de uma Revisão Bibliográfica Sistemática (RBS) e um estudo de caso longitudinal que detalhe adequações, análises e justificativas realizadas por uma empresa brasileira para obter recomendações de especialistas para uma implementação bem sucedida do DDMRP. Ao longo do estudo de caso foram identificadas 11 adequações, 7 análises feitas e, ao final do trabalho geradas 5 recomendações para implementação do DDMRP visando contribuir academicamente para o entendimento das etapas necessárias para implementação e padronização do DDMRP.Palavras-chave: Gestão da cadeia de suprimentos. The Demand-Driven Material Resource Planning (DDMRP) method is one of the newer methods of inventory management in an enterprise. Its creation was initiated by a change in the business environment and the characteristics of today’s supply chains. DDMRP brings a combined pull/push approach to inventory management based on creating strategic stacks in the supply chain and managing inventory at these strategic points based on customer orders. The DDMRP system provides a simple methodology that is easy to apply, even in smaller businesses, without the need for advanced information systems. However, a simple methodology also has its limitations because, in many cases, intuitive and subjective approaches are used to set inventory management parameters (variability factor, running time factor, seasonality factor, thresholds, etc.). Simplified parameter determination may, under certain conditions, lead to some storage tanks being too high or too low for certain periods of time. We know from classical inventory management, in the conditions of setting stack parameters in DDMRP, that the deficiency can be eliminated by the use of statistical–analytical approaches and optimisation techniques. This article deals with the issue of setting optimal values of storage tanks in DDMRP, while the correctness of the methodology is verified through simulation of the demand-driven planning process. The correctness and usability of the proposed approaches in sizing strategic reservoirs in DDMRP was confirmed through the results of stimulation experiments.
