Implementation of the expert decision system for environmental assessment in composite materials selection for automotive components

Abstract: Conventional materials selection system was replaced with sophisticated software tools by rapid changing technology. The growing environmental concerns and regulations widely among the industry, especially in automobiles, force us to explore the natural fiber materials as a replacement for synthetic materials which is in common use. As a result of extensive research and development, new natural fiber reinforced composite materials are emerging and the database of materials growing exponentially. The decision o… Show more

“…The multi-criteria decision-making methods, such as the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) [22], analytical network process (ANP) [25,26], data envelopment analysis (DEA) [27], the Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) [25,28], VIKOR [29] and the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) [30] methods, are usually adopted to evaluate the alternatives in sustainability and green practices. MCDM methods would be used in recycling practices to select the best ELV recycling merchant.…”

“…In addition, in the automotive industry, green activities are conducted both in green supply chain management [6,14] and in the green performance on each process such as environmental material study [8,22], green procurement [6], site selection [28], ELV management project selection [45] and recycling practice [5].…”

“…Here, the product design speci fication for manufacturing a handbrake lever of IS, E and TS is referred [43,48,54]. Selection of the materials should be consistent with the industry declaration on product de sign specification [38]. One of the materials used to manu facture the handbrake lever is structural steel S235 [48].…”

“…The major problem in the conventional MCDM method is inconsistent judgement and preference subjectivity over the process selection. For example, there is no standard measurement for the weighting process in Analytical Hierarchy Process and Analytical Network Process [36,38]. Some of the tools are only able to deal with qualitative data, which is also an issue in material selection [39].…”

“…Uygun ürünün seçimi problemi de dikkate alınması gereken seçim kriterlerinin ve değerlendirmeye tabii tutulması gereken alternatiflerin sayısı göz önüne alındığında, karmaşık bir ÇKKV problemidir (Bulut, Duru, & Kocak, 2015) (Ahmed Ali, Sapuan, Zainudin, & Othman, 2015). Sanayinin birçok sektöründe endüstriyel tip fanlar kullanılmaktadır.…”
