Implementation of Micro CT in CAD/CAM dentistry for image processing and soft computing: a review

Abstract: All This review discusses the merits and area of improvement of various radiology aids employed in current dentistry and also refers to scope in CAD/CAM dentistry. However, present radiology devices are playing an important role in clinical dentistry but their area of application is limited due to harmful effects of x-ray exposure to human and high operating cost. Radiology device like Micro CT (μ-CT) is powerful tool to assess the dental prosthesis fabricated using CAD/CAM but radiology devices can also be us… Show more

“…However, we wanted to implement real world data including representative loading situations in the human oral cavity, allowing translation and generalization of outcomes. One possible way of further in-depth ex vivo biological and mechanical testing of CAD/CAM restorations could be the application of post-treatment analysis using a combination of µ-CT and finite element techniques [56,57]. We included only prospective studies, leading to a higher evidence grade compared to the inclusion of case series and retrospective studies.…”

“…In many applications in research as well as in the industry, computed tomography (CT) is becoming the standard tool to carry out nondestructive inspection of the interiors or testing the properties of an object [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. The common practice in tomographic data acquisition is that an expert with a research question acquires data with the help of an operator.…”
