Abstract. Simanchuk Y, Sultangazina G. 2023. Natural vegetation communities on the iron ore dumpsites in Northern Kazakhstan. Biodiversitas 24: 3414-3423. Mining can significantly impact the landscape, clearing vegetation and causing other environmental damage. Reclamation and revegetation are often used to restore degraded land after mining. One reclamation method is passive restoration, which allows vegetation to regenerate naturally. In this study, we investigated the primary stages of syngenesis at the dumpsites of the Sokolov Sarbai Mining Production Association (SSGPO JSC), including the Sokolov and Sarbai deposits and the Kachary Ruda JSC. The age of the dumps studied ranged from two to forty years. According to the degree of syngenesis, the vegetation cover of the dumps was divided into three groups: pioneer groups, group-thicket communities, and diffuse communities. A total of sixty-three standard geobotanical descriptions were made. The composition of plant cenopopulations for saline and non-saline soils was analyzed. A comprehensive floristic analysis of the list of plants, as well as the activity of species in terms of their importance, was carried out. Dominant plants with a high class of consistency were highlighted. The study of syngenesis stages showed that, despite the long period of existence of the dumps, the formation of zonal or intrazonal communities did not occur. The initial stages of syngenesis were characterized by a random and unstable floristic composition of plant communities. The ecological species heterogeneity of the first stages of syngenesis was documented in the spread of species of different coenotic groups. It was determined that salinity slowed down the rate of syngenesis stage change, reduced the number of species, and altered floral composition in saline soils compared to non-saline ones. Even at old dump sites, the floristic composition was incomplete compared to natural phytocenoses.

One of the most acute problems of agriculture in some regions of the Russian Federation, including the Republic of Tatarstan at present is a progressive degradation of the soil cover. Every year the scale of water erosion increases, causing huge damage not only to agriculture but also to large and small rivers of the region. In this regard, there is a need to analyze the impact of soil erosion on the efficiency of agricultural production and the development of science-based anti-erosion measures to combat soil erosion in agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan. The results of the carried out research testify that ecological efficiency of one anti-erosion construction in complex with soil protection measures protects on the average 120 ha of lands from further development of erosion processes, economically pays back by the results of two years of economic activity on the protected lands. The practical significance of the research results lies in the fact that they can not only contribute to the development of the agro-industrial complex and other sectors of the economy, provide an increase in soil fertility, a dynamic increase in agricultural production, reduction of retirement of agricultural land and the creation of new jobs. They also ensure the conservation and restoration of water resources.

The formation of the agro-industrial complex and ensuring the country’s food security in the current geopolitical conditions is possible only on the basis of strengthening and developing its material and technical base, which over the years of institutional reforms has largely become dependent on imported equipment and technologies. The withdrawal from the Russian market of suppliers of imported agricultural machinery from unfriendly countries, as a result of sanctions imposed by Western countries, provoked an increase in prices for it, which led to a reduction in the provision of basic types of agricultural machinery to agricultural producers. Thus, in 2021, the provision of agricultural organizations in the country with tractors was 3.5 times lower, and with grain harvesters 3.2 times lower than the average for 1980-1990, which indicates a steady downward trend in the provision of agricultural producers with material and technical resources. Domestic machine builders and manufacturers of agricultural machinery are not yet able to ensure the production and supply to the agricultural sector of the required number of high-performance, energy-rich and inexpensive agricultural machines and mechanisms. The current state of the material and technical base of the agro-industrial complex requires its significant strengthening, which is impossible without adjusting the existing agricultural policy of the state in the direction of allocating significant additional budgetary funds for the development of the material and technical base of the agro-industrial complex, restoring soil fertility, domestic agricultural engineering, improving selection and seed production , eliminating the disparity in prices for agricultural and industrial goods, ensuring the technological and technical independence of the Russian agro-industrial complex from other countries. It is also necessary to improve the work of regional authorities to strengthen the material and technical base of agricultural units in their regions, to create effective mechanisms for public-private partnerships to improve the efficiency of agricultural producers.
