Implementation and evaluation of automated tetrahedral–prismatic mesh generation software

Abstract: An open-source implementation of an efficient mesh generation procedure for hybrid prismatic-tetrahedral meshes intended for use in Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes solutions is presented. The method employed combines the established, and very fast, Delaunay-based tetrahedral mesh generator TetGen with a novel technique for the creation of a prismatic layer, where constrained global optimization of the envelope is employed. Once a well-shaped envelope is thus obtained, a semi-structured layer of pentahedral ele… Show more

“…Daming Feng [9] et al presented a scalable three dimensional hybrid parallel Delaunay image-to-mesh conversion algorithm (PDR.PODM) for distributed shared memory architectures. David Eller [10] combines the Delaunay-based tetrahedral mesh generator TETGEN and a novel technique for creation of a prismatic layer together, thus an open source implementation of an efficient mesh generation procedure for hybrid prismatictetrahedral meshes intended for use in Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes solutions is developed.…”

“…Indirect methods [24 , 25] were proposed to convert Delaunay triangular meshes into quadrilateral meshes by combining adjacent pairs of triangles. Constrained triangulated surfaces can be used to mesh a three-dimensional geological model by using a series of tetrahedral meshes [26] , [27] , [28] .…”
