Implementation and Control of High Performance Car-Headlamp Driver

Abstract. This paper presents implementation and control of high performance car-headlamp driver. The lamp used in the proposed system is a high intensity discharge lamp for cars. The proposed driver utilizes a power structure of flyback converter and full-bridge inverter. Because a low-cost 8-bit micom is utilized as the controller, the driver is very simple. The flyback converter of the proposed driver supplies boost DC and high voltage for the lamp drive and ignition, respectively. When the operation of the proposed driver arrives in steady-state, the driver controls the lamp with AC current using the DC-AC inverter. In this paper, the operation principle of the proposed driver is described, briefly. It is shown through the experimental results that the proposed system has good performance for the high performance car-headlamp.
