Imperialist competition algorithm for distributed generation connections

Abstract: This paper proposes an Imperialist Competition Algorithm (ICA) to maximize the benefits of distribution network operators (DNOs) accrued due to presence of distributed generation (DG) units in distribution networks. The sum of active loss reduction and network investment deferral incentives has been considered as objective function to be maximized in this study. The optimal location and size of DG units in the network are found considering various techno-economical issues. The application of the proposed method… Show more

“…Research for the optimal allocation of DER has been investigated using the conventional algorithms [5] including the analytical [6] and numerical [7] methods, and evolutionary methods such as bacterial foraging optimization [8], particle swarm optimization with constriction factor approach (PSO-CFA) [9] and imperialist competition algorithm (ICA) [10]. Therefore, different evolutionary algorithms (EA) have been applied to the optimization problem of multiple DERs.…”

“…ICA is applied in Mahari and Babaei for finding optimal DG sizes and locations with objective to minimise the power losses in a distribution network. In Soroudi and Ehsan, ICA is proposed to find DG size and location while sensitive loads are considered in an islanding mode of a DNS. The optimal DGs and capacitor banks sizing and location in DNSs as well as network reconfigurations are achieved by the application of ICA with objective to minimise power losses, maximise voltage stability index, and improve voltage profile in Moradi et al and in Koong et al Poornazaryan et al proposed ICA to solve optimal DGs allocation problem at any level of load demand with power losses minimisation and voltage stability improvement as the objective of the optimisation.…”

“…After obtaining the failure risk of each node of interest, an optimisation procedure based on discrete imperialist competition algorithm (DICA) is developed to minimise global risk and LFOR of the network by means of selective installation of surge arresters. The DICA benefits from its better convergence characteristics and robustness compared with the other evolutionary-based methods such as particle swarm optimisation, GA and ordinal optimisation method [8][9][10].…”
