-Le problème du battage d'un pieu tubulaire en acier dans un massif rocheux est abordé sous deux volets : numérique et expérimental. L'approche numérique par éléments finis couplant une modélisation lagrangienne du pieu en mouvement à une modélisation eulérienne du massif en place (approche CEL) permet de suivre l'émergence de la plastification dans le tube en acier en cours de pénétration, naissant en pointe pour se propager vers la tête du pieu. Un cas d'étude en conditions axisymétriques est présenté pour une roche dont la résistance à la compression simple s c vaut 28 MPa. L'approche expérimentale poursuivie en laboratoire a mis en jeu trois matériaux synthétisés sous la forme de monolithes dans lesquels le battage d'un tube en acier inoxydable a été entrepris. Les résultats de ces essais largement instrumentés indiquent que le battage est aisé dans un mortier cellulaire dont la résistance à la compression simple s c n'excède pas 6 MPa mais pratiquement impossible dans un mortier dont la résistance à la compression simple s'approche de 28 MPa. Le battage dans un mortier dont la résistance à la compression simple vaut 11 MPa s'est révélée encore faisable sous une hauteur de chute raisonnable. Les résultats obtenus avec les 3 matériaux mis en oeuvre à ce jour indiquent que la résistance unitaire croît depuis environ 2 s c en surface pour atteindre 6 à 8 s c à une pénétration équivalente à 15-20 fois l'épaisseur du tube.

Abstract. This keynote lecture describes recent analytical and numerical advances in the modeling of the axial nonlinear dynamic interaction between a single pile and its embedding soil. On one hand, analytical solutions are developed for assessing the nonlinear axial dynamic response of the shaft of a pile subjected to dynamic loads, and in particular to vibratory loads. Radial inhomogeneity arising from shear modulus degradation is evaluated over a range of parameters and compared with those obtained by other authors and by a numerical radial discrete model simulating the pile and soil movements from integration of the laws of motion. New approximate non linear solutions for axial pile shaft behaviour developed from general elastodynamic equations are presented and compared to existing linear solutions. The soil non linear behaviour and its ability to dissipate mechanical energy upon cyclic loading are shown to have a significant influence on the mechanical impedance provided by the surrounding soil against pile shaft movement. The limitations of over-simplified modelling of pile response are highlighted.

Numerical investigation of soil plugging effect inside sleeve of cast-in-place piles driven by vibratory hammers in clays

During driving sleeve of cast-in-place piles by vibratory hammers, soils were squeezed into sleeve and then soil plugging was formed. The physic-mechanical properties of the soil plug have direct influence on the load transmission between the sleeve wall and soil plug. Nevertheless, the researches on this issue are insufficient. In this study, finite element and infinite element coupling model was introduced, through the commercial code ABAQUS, to simulate the full penetration process of the sleeve driven from the ground surface to the desired depth by applying vibratory hammers. The research results indicated that the cyclic shearing action decreases both in soil shear strength and in granular cementation force when the sleeve is driven by vibratory hammers, which leads to a partially plugged mode of the soil plug inside the sleeve. Accordingly, the penetration resistance of sleeve driven by vibratory hammers is the smallest compared to those by other installation methods. When driving the sleeve, the annular soil arches forming in the soil plug at sleeve end induce a significant rise in the internal shaft resistance. Moreover, the influence of vibration frequencies, sleeve diameters, and soil layer properties on the soil plug was investigated in detail, and at the same time improved formulas were brought forward to describe the soil plug resistance inside vibratory driven sleeve.
