“…However, studies that were more adequately powered to detect differences have found that distress levels change in parallel with disease activity 11,16,60 , and those in relapse have poorer quality of life than those in remission 61,62 . The findings from this study, showing clear differences in distress between a matched community non-IBD sample and those with active IBD, add further support to the understanding that it is not having the disease per se that relates to psychological difficulties, but rather that disease activity is pivotal.…”

“…Casellas et al 126 administered the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ) and the EQ-5D among 1156 Spanish IBD patients, 628 with CD and 528 with UC. These were composed of both inpatients and outpatients: 141 and 487 respectively for CD, and 108 and 420 for UC.…”

“…It appears that the valuation of the EQ-5D used the Spanish valuation set as reported in Badia et al. 127 Within a multivariate regression analysis of the IBDQ, Cassellas et al 126 found that the underlying condition was not statistically significant, with a t-statistic of only -0.067. The 25th percentile, median and 75th percentile EQ-5D preference values were estimated.…”
