Impacts on Helping Professionals' Preparation During the COVID-19 Lockdown Through the Perspectives of Two Professional Program Educators

Abstract

The authors of this chapter share insights into the impacts of COVID-19 on teacher education and nurse education. The narrative is written from the perspective of two professional educators who live and work in rural to suburban areas of Southern Indiana. The chapter includes a historical perspective on the state of nurse and teacher education from pre-COVID-19 through post-COVID-19 environments. Particular attention is paid to the commonalities of these two helping professions and the effects on building the dispositions of empathy and caring in teacher and nurse candidates during the COVID-19 shutdown.
