Impacts of Renewable Energy on CO2 Emission: Evidence from the Visegrad Group Countries

Abstract: EU policies aim to develop renewable energy share in both production and consumption of total energy and increase the efforts to mitigate climate change. As relatively new EU members, the Visegrad countries aimed to adopt these targets. Therefore, climate change mitigation and CO2 emissions reduction are important issues in Visegrad countries. In this paper, we examine the renewable energy consumption and CO2 emissions relationship in the Visegrad countries. We use the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square (FMO… Show more

“…Other studies by authors who look at profitability both from the point of view of economic return on investment and from the point of view of putting profitability indicators into different models show that the topic of profitability is of general interest in the V4 region as a whole. These authors also include Sagan et al (2022), Ugurlu (2022), andMichalkova et al (2022).…”

“…The authors conclude that energy consumption is positively related to economic growth, and this relationship is more efficient in Visegrad countries than in the other 14 EU countries. Uğurlu (2022) investigates the renewable energy and CO2 emission relationship for the V4 countries and finds a significant decreasing effect of renewable energy on CO2 emission.…”

“…In rural areas, however, solid fuel heating dominates in single-family buildings, which is often of poor quality (Olczak & Komorowska, 2021). On the other hand, heating installations are often based on energy-inefficient technologies that allow the combustion of fuels at relatively low temperatures, which contribute to excessive emissions of harmful substances into the air (Uğurlu, 2022).…”
