Impacts of grid integration of solar PV and electric vehicle on grid stability, power quality and energy economics: a review

Abstract: Grid integration of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and electric vehicles (EVs) has been increasing in recent years, mainly with two motivations: reducing energy cost, and reducing emission. Several research studies focuses on the individual impact of grid integration of PVs and EVs. However, it is worth noting that with the increasing penetration of PVs and EVs, the power grid will be experiencing the combined impact of PV–EV integration. To present a thorough understanding, this study first presents a detail… Show more

“…The first is that solar PV power generation has the same characteristics as wind power such as intermittent, volatile, and random. Once connected to the grids, it can result in voltage fluctuation, current and frequency instability, and impact on power quality and safety [101]. The second is particular to China.…”

“…Balanced power supply and demand represent an optimum condition and allow for more regional developments. Power grid interconnection is a significant tool for integrating energy resources [4][5] and back-to-back (BTB) converters are a vital part of power network interconnection systems. The BTB converter is also widely applied to flexible high voltage direct current power transmission, variable speed wind turbines in wind power generation systems, variable speed pumped storage plants and other applications.…”
