In recent years, nature tourism has increased its prominence in the tourism market due to sociocultural change and greater concern for the environment in our society. In this sense, Spanish national parks have become important tourist destinations, increasing the number of visitors significantly in the last decade, exceeding 14.81 million in 2019. In addition to their incalculable ecological value, these protected natural spaces are a key factor in achieving the socioeconomic development of their rural area of influence. The main objective of the study is to contrast the development experienced by tourist businesses in the areas of socioeconomic influence of the Spanish national parks. This has been done from a multidimensional perspective: infrastructures, socioeconomic development, and the perception of the residents belonging to the area of influence of the parks. The indicators associated with each dimension have been compiled and a logit model was used to contrast the relationships between the different variables. The results confirmed that perceived economic development and infrastructure have a significant impact on tourism businesses. In conclusion, local socioeconomic development requires greater effective public–private partnerships to achieve business prosperity and a better quality of life as factors for the sustainability of nature tourism in national parks.

Sustainable tourism is the idea of managing the negative impacts or potential for serious harm to the economic, environmental, or social elements of a destination, and thus reaching the goals of sustainable development. This research benchmarks the sustainability of 111 tourist destinations throughout the world, using an advanced integration of a two-stage network DEA under the meta-frontier concept, directional distance function, and network-based ranking methods. The empirical outcomes of these analyses clarify that the sources of sustainable inefficiencies are the self-production process and the technology gap among the tourism regions, rather than the capacity of utilizing the input resources or maintaining the production outcomes. The network-based ranking emphasizes the sufficiency and deficiency of each place, and provides a map of reference among destinations. Based on these, the article reports some managerial suggestions, theoretical implications, and future research directions.

Background The number of overweight children is increasing at an alarming rate. This issue requires effective action plans, as childhood obesity has become a problem in which addressing environmental factors is decisive. Significant differences have also been shown in lifestyle habits that determine overweight based on sex. This study therefore aimed to examine these risk factors according to sex. Methods The sample included first‐year high school students from Murcia, Spain. Information was collected through the “Questionnaire on Healthy Habits in Adolescents,” validated for this age range, and the weight, height, and waist circumference of the participants were obtained. Data were analyzed through partial least squares structural equation modeling to determine which modifiable risk factors promoted the appearance of excess weight and in what magnitude. Results A total of 421 students participated in the study, and 40.6% of overweight patients were detected according to their body mass index. No differences were found between the sexes and weights. The environment and the use of new technologies that do not involve sitting were significant only in girls (P < 0.05). Conversely, physical activity was significantly higher in boys (P < 0.05). Dietary factors and sedentary activities did not differ according to sex. Conclusions The social and school environment, the use of new technologies (for girls), and physical activity (for boys) condition nutritional status. Identifying gender disparities in behaviors that involve health should be a priority for new prevention programs. Targeting young people's health from a gender perspective has considerable potential to reduce overweight problems in adulthood.
