Land use changes, specifically the growth of impervious areas due to urbanization, exacerbate non-point-source pollutants in stormwater runoff, surpassing discharge from point sources in Korea. The application of nature-based solutions, such as constructed wetlands (CWs), is becoming popular for stormwater treatment, but challenges arise when background concentrations are overlooked, leading to reduced pollutant removal efficiency. This study aims to propose a plan for the sustainability of CWs by evaluating design appropriateness and utilizing existing monitoring results. The evaluation of 63 CWs reveals that meteorological factors, specifically antecedent dry days and rainfall depth, have significant impacts on urban stormwater runoff quality in various land uses, affecting the performance of CWs. Designing CWs considering land use is crucial due to the considerable concentration variations across different land uses. Improving CW performance requires proper maintenance strategies to ensure effective pollutant removal mechanisms, especially for poorly degradable organic substances post treatment. Rainfall characteristics play a pivotal role in CW design and operation, affecting capacity, efficiency estimation, and maintenance frequency. Considering various factors such as land use, watershed characteristics, and ease of maintenance is essential when utilizing CWs. This study’s findings contribute to the design and operation of future CWs, emphasizing the need for continuous performance analyses through long-term monitoring.

Optimal utilization of limited resources, such as water and feed in beef and dairy cattle farms, is considered important. Considering that Indonesia aim to boost production to meet increasing demands, the lack of information of resource usage in this industry impedes the formulation of effective strategies for increasing production responsibly. Therefore, this study aims to bridge the information gap to enable sustainable development in the form of water and feed productivity analysis in beef and dairy farms. We interviewed farm owners and measured water use and feed consumption from various cattle farms in Bandung Regency. We found that beef cattle are more efficient in converting feed into produce (0.59 kg beef/kg feed) than dairy cattle (0.335 kg milk/ kg feed). However, beef cattle have lower water productivity (0.0297 kg beef/L) than dairy cattle (0.08 kg milk/L) excluding the water requirement for growing feed. In the case of adding water usage for growing grass feed with, the water productivity significantly reduced to 0.0023 kg beef/L and 0.0031 kg milk/L. Based on calculations, additional water intake is needed for beef and milk production, especially for growing cattle feed that cannot be met solely through rainwater and reuse of greywater.

Nghiên cứu này được thực hiện nhằm chỉ rõ mức độ rủi ro sinh thái và rủi ro sức khỏe với môi trường nước sông Mã tỉnh Thanh Hóa. Chúng tôi sử dụng số liệu tại 8 điểm quan trắc nước trên sông Mã tỉnh Thanh Hóa trong giai đoạn 2011-2020 để tính toán chỉ số chất lượng nước (WQI), chỉ số rủi ro sinh thái (RI) và chỉ số rủi ro sức khỏe (RISH và HAZAD). Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy, 6/8 vị trí quan trắc nước (75%) có điểm WQI ≥ 76 điểm và có khả năng sử dụng cho mục đích cấp nước sinh hoạt. Chỉ có 2/8 vị trí quan trắc nước (25%) có điểm WQI<76 điểm và chỉ sử dụng được cho mục đích tưới tiêu thủy lợi. Mặc dù chỉ số RI môi trường nước của sông Mã ở mức thấp nhưng mức độ rủi ro sức khỏe lại ở mức đáng lo ngại khi chỉ số rủi ro với tác nhân gây ung thư là As ở mức trung bình (RISHwater> 10-4) và với tác nhân không gây ung thư là Mn ở mức không chấp nhận được (HAZARDwater >1). Trước khi sử dụng nước sông Mã làm nước cấp sinh hoạt cho người dân cần có biện pháp xử lý để loại bỏ hoặc giảm bớt nồng độ As và Mn trong nước để giảm tác động xấu đến sức khỏe của người dân.
